Boiler Plant Operator (BPO)
To support 24/7 hospital operations at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) VA Medical Center, the Boiler Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, continuous operation, monitoring, and maintenance of high-pressure boiler plant systems. This is a mission-critical role — insufficient coverage can result in hospital shutdown.
Operators must meet VA and VHA Directive 1810 requirements, including extended onsite qualification and safety training before operating independently.

What You’ll Do
- Operate, monitor, start up, and shut down high-pressure steam boilers and associated plant equipment
- Perform daily boiler plant operations, inspections, and logging of pressures, alarms, and gauges
- Test and operate all safety devices and control systems
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance (PMs) on boiler plant equipment
- Prepare equipment for inspections and audits
- Monitor facility systems and respond to emergent utility issues
- Operate emergency generators as required
- Maintain accurate operational logs and documentation
- Provide shift hand-offs and communicate unresolved issues
- Support emergency coverage shifts (up to 30 additional hours per operator annually)
