HVAC Technician / A/C Equipment Mechanic

Strategic Resilience Group is seeking experienced Licensed HVAC Technicians / A/C Equipment Mechanics to support facility operations at the Dallas VA Medical Center. This is a full-time, onsite VA facilities support role for journeyman-level refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics responsible for installing, operating, repairing, and maintaining HVAC, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and chilled-water systems throughout a hospital environment.
This requirement supports a 10-person HVAC team at the North Texas VA Medical Center, located at 4500 S. Lancaster Rd., Dallas, TX 75216. The anticipated contract structure includes a base period plus option periods, with performance currently reflected from 09/01/2026 through 01/30/2029, if all options are exercised.
Position Responsibilities
- Install, operate, inspect, repair, and maintain refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems
- Work on systems ranging from small domestic units to complex equipment up to 300 HP and large central systems of approximately 500 tons
- Perform major and minor HVAC and refrigeration repairs
- Troubleshoot refrigerant leaks and system performance issues
- Service compressors and related HVAC system components
- Adjust, calibrate, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic controls
- Perform chemical treatment of HVAC water systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Coordinate daily work assignments with VA personnel and report progress to the COR
- Complete daily service logs, timecards, and work documentation
- Work both indoors and outdoors in a hospital facility environment
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Normal business hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Full-time onsite coverage
- 80 hours per pay period per mechanic
- Overtime must be authorized in advance by the COR on a case-by-case basis
- Work outside normal business hours requires prior approval
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Active Texas HVAC license
- Minimum 4 years of trade experience as a journeyman-level refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic
- Evidence of Siemens controls training
- Current OSHA certification
- Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Experience with refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and chilled-water systems
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control systems
- Ability to perform heavy physical work safely in a hospital facility environment
- Ability to complete VA-required privacy, information security, and rules-of-behavior training
- Ability to complete required VA access, badging, onboarding, and training requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hospital, healthcare, government, critical infrastructure, or large commercial HVAC environments
- Large central plant operations experience
- Chilled-water systems experience
- Refrigerant leak troubleshooting experience
- Compressor servicing experience
- Chemical treatment of HVAC water systems experience
- Siemens building controls experience
- Familiarity with NFPA 99, OSHA, Joint Commission, and VA safety expectations
- Experience working safely in confined, cramped, loud, hot, or high-risk mechanical spaces
