Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist)

The VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking experienced Medical Technologists (Clinical Laboratory Scientists) to support onsite diagnostic laboratory operations under an ICSP staff augmentation task order. This role supports direct patient care for Veterans and requires strong technical competency across multiple laboratory disciplines in a regulated healthcare environment.
This is a hands-on clinical role—you will be embedded in the VA lab, working VA schedules, systems, and quality standards.
Position Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
As a Medical Technologist, you will provide onsite clinical laboratory services, including:
•Perform routine and complex laboratory testing across:
oChemistry
oUrinalysis
oBlood Bank (crossmatching, antibody screening, transfusion support)
oHematology and Coagulation
oMicrobiology (manual and automated testing, plating, gram stains, PCR)
•Operate, maintain, and perform QC on automated lab instrumentation, including:
oAbbott Architect / Alinity
oSysmex
oACL TOP
oMicroscan and related systems
•Conduct daily and weekly quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance
•Accurately document, evaluate, and report patient and QC results
•Identify, document, and resolve testing, collection, or reporting discrepancies
•Participate in CAP Proficiency Testing (PT) activities
•Safeguard patient data in compliance with VA privacy, HIPAA, and information security rules
•Support patient-centered care and maintain professional conduct within the VA clinical environment
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Contract-Driven)
Candidates must meet all of the following:
•National certification as a Medical Technologist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist
(MT, MLS, or CLS) through ASCP or AMT
•Minimum 3 years of recent experience performing:
oChemistry
oUrinalysis
oBlood Bank
oHematology / Coagulation
oMicrobiology
•Ability to work independently in a hospital laboratory setting
•Fluent in spoken and written English
•Eligible to complete VA credentialing and privileging
•Ability to obtain and maintain:
oNPI number
oVA-required onboarding, training, and occupational health clearances
