Oncology Physician
About the Role
We are seeking Board Certified Oncology Physicians to provide high-quality care for veterans at the VA Western New York Healthcare System. This role includes both inpatient and outpatient care, participation in tumor boards, and on-call coverage. Physicians will join a multidisciplinary care team delivering oncology services that meet or exceed national standards of care.
Primary site: Buffalo VAMC, 3495 Bailey Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215
Travel required: Batavia VAMC (36 miles from Buffalo) and Olean CBOC (75 miles from Buffalo)
Buffalo, NY (VA Medical Center) with travel to Batavia and Olean, NY
- Deliver oncology care in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings.
- Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consults from primary care and other specialties.
- Conduct patient exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe treatment plans.
- Coordinate patient management with primary care and specialty providers.
- Provide on-call coverage (phone consults within 15 minutes; onsite response within 60 minutes).
- Participate in tumor boards, peer reviews, and ongoing professional practice evaluations.
- Document care in VA electronic health records (EHR) per VA standards.
- Medical Doctor (MD/DO) degree with completed oncology fellowship.
- Board Certification in Medical Oncology (American Board of Internal Medicine).
- Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Eligible for credentialing and privileging with the VA.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
Additional Requirements
- Proof of immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza, Hepatitis B).
- Negative TB test within the last year.
- Completion of VA-mandated training (HIPAA, ethics, patient safety, EHR, etc.).
- DEA registration and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Successful credentialing and privileging by VA Medical Executive Board.
Clearance / Eligibility
- U.S. Citizenship required (per VA credentialing and federal requirements).
- Must pass background investigation and OIG exclusion screening.
- Experience working in VA or other federal healthcare systems.
- Prior exposure to multidisciplinary oncology care teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient and care-team engagement.
