Phlebotomist / Medical Technician
On-site – VA Boston Healthcare System
The VA Boston Healthcare System is seeking experienced Phlebotomists to support inpatient and outpatient laboratory operations across multiple VA medical campuses. This is a staff augmentation role providing direct phlebotomy and specimen processing services to Veterans in a high-volume clinical environment.
You’ll work as part of the VA laboratory team, supporting inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, Emergency Department, STAT, ASAP, and timed blood draws, while adhering to VA, Joint Commission, and national laboratory standards.
Position Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
•Perform patient phlebotomy for inpatient, outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, ASAP, and timed draws
•Conduct inpatient ward rounds as required
•Perform specimen processing and send-out preparation
•Positively identify patients prior to collection and specimens prior to processing or aliquoting
•Identify, document, and resolve specimen collection or processing issues
•Safeguard electronic and paper patient information in accordance with VA privacy requirements
•Deliver patient-centered care in a professional manner that avoids complaints and service disruptions
•Support laboratory quality assurance and quality improvement activities as required
•Accurately document care and services in the VA electronic health record system
•Comply with VA patient safety, infection control, and reporting requirements
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
•Minimum of three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience
•Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
•Technical proficiency to perform all required phlebotomy and specimen processing duties
•Ability to meet all VA credentialing, training, and onboarding requirements
•Must not appear on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
