Psychiatrist (Locum Tenens) – VA Medical Center

Strategic Resilience Group (SRG) is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists to support veteran patient care at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and affiliated outpatient clinics in the Houston area.
This is an onsite federal healthcare services role supporting a high-visibility VA mission. Candidates must be able to meet VA credentialing and compliance requirements prior to start.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of mental health conditions
- Conduct new patient evaluations, follow-ups, and post-discharge care
- Develop and manage individualized treatment plans
- Document care in accordance with VA electronic health record (EHR) requirements
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams and VA leadership
- Participate in peer review, quality improvement, and clinical coordination efforts
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited institution
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (ABPN)
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification (or equivalent)
- Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging prior to start
- Ability to work onsite in the Houston, TX area
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance (approximately 90 miles) of Houston VA facilities
- Must be able to meet VA onboarding, training, and compliance requirements
- Subject to background screening and OIG exclusion review
- Professional liability coverage required
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting VA or federal healthcare systems
- Familiarity with VA EHR systems and workflows
- Experience treating complex or severe mental health conditions
