About the Role
Strategic Resilience Group is seeking Pharmacy Technicians to support the Department of Veterans Affairs, Orlando VA Healthcare System. This requirement is intended to help address a current shortage of two Full-Time Employee Equivalent Pharmacy Technicians and provide coverage for VA Pharmacy Technicians during periods of absence or additional staffing need.
This role will support VA pharmacy operations on an as-needed basis. Coverage may be required due to planned leave, sick leave, personal leave, vacations, call-outs, staff vacancies, or other operational coverage needs. Final schedule, site assignment, shift length, and start date will be based on VA requirements and contract award.
Candidates should be flexible, dependable, and comfortable supporting pharmacy operations across multiple VA sites of care. While the requirement is structured around two FTEE Pharmacy Technician positions, the work schedule may vary based on VA staffing needs.
Schedule and Coverage Requirements
Pharmacy Technician support may be required during regular business hours, after business hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays on an as-needed basis.
Assigned shifts may include:
4-hour shifts
8-hour shifts
10-hour shifts
12-hour shifts
Compressed tours, such as 10-hour or 12-hour shifts
The VA may provide advance notice of planned staff leave coverage when possible, generally up to two weeks in advance. However, unexpected coverage needs, such as call-outs, may be communicated with a minimum of two hours’ notice by email and/or phone.
If a scheduled technician is unable to complete an assigned shift, replacement technician coverage may be required within two hours. On-call and standby duties are not required.

Orlando VA Medical Center
Lake Baldwin VA Clinic
Viera VA Clinic
Daytona VA Clinic
Position Responsibilities
Pharmacy Technicians may support outpatient, inpatient, inventory, distribution, and medication preparation functions depending on assigned VA site needs. Responsibilities may include:
- Interpret, fill, package, label, and prepare prescriptions and medication orders for pharmacist review and verification.
- Support outpatient prescription assembly, patient pickup workflows, mail packaging, and medication distribution.
- Receive, rotate, stock, and secure medications and pharmacy supplies in accordance with VA, USP, DEA, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Operate pharmacy automation, dispensing, packaging, and distribution equipment as required.
- Maintain inventory records, monitor expiration dates, and support accurate medication storage practices.
- Conduct ward or unit inspections for medication storage, expired products, replenishment needs, and compliance requirements.
- Assist with inpatient pharmacy activities, including unit dose medication management, ward stock, replenishment, and sterile compounding support when assigned.
- Support non-sterile compounding and medication manufacturing processes when required.
- Support controlled substance workflows in accordance with VA and DEA requirements.
- Answer pharmacy distribution questions and alert pharmacists to therapeutic, safety, inventory, or operational concerns.
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspaces.
- Follow all privacy, security, customer service, and healthcare compliance standards.
- Complete required national, VISN, local, and pharmacy-specific training requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Current national Pharmacy Technician certification through PTCB/CPhT or NHA/ExCPT.
- Ability to maintain required certification and continuing education throughout the assignment.
- Pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, clinic, outpatient, inpatient, retail, long-term care, or comparable pharmacy environment.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Ability to provide supporting certification, competency, and skills documentation upon request.
- Ability to complete VA onboarding, access, training, and compliance requirements before start.
- Ability to work onsite at assigned Orlando VA Healthcare System locations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts based on VA staffing and coverage needs.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident/Green Card holder with a Social Security Number and at least three years of U.S. residency.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
- VA, federal healthcare, hospital, clinic, or high-volume pharmacy operations.
- Outpatient prescription assembly and patient-facing pickup workflows.
- Inpatient medication distribution and unit dose pharmacy support.
- Inventory control, ward stock, replenishment, and medication storage inspections.
- Controlled substance handling and documentation.
- Mail packaging, shipping, and medication distribution workflows.
- Pharmacy automation, dispensing systems, and medication packaging equipment.
- Sterile or non-sterile compounding support.
- Flexible shift coverage, PRN support, or float pool experience.
